Literature Text

I come again tonight.
The large nosed creature sneers,
but you deserve me.

You are intoxicating, dancing
with Juliet's innocence, twisting
an ideal lover's essence into your body, acting
like one shaped as herself.

I have watched you every night.
The watchful man has taken notice,
but I find him a triviality.
Your beauty, your utter beauty
compliments mine (and you will be mine.)

Although we have not met,
from my portrait of you
I have envisioned the future.
I will take the disgraceful Shylock
and he will lead me to you.
(Then we will fall in love.)

Have you caught my eye yet?
I watch for you each day.
Our communications are through gestures,
yours pre-directed by man, mine by the gods
but the actress does not tell.
Her most entrancing perfume
is that of her many masks.

Tomorrow we shall meet,
and you shall collide
with my harsh wall of wonder.
Then our love
will amplify your success, dear.
Your greatness stems from me, like
a crocus in fertile ground.

I shall rise you to my power
and perhaps you will eclipse me.
(I am the most blinding of lights.)
Based on Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.
